EUISM (EUrope Is a State of Mind)The project «EUISM – Europe is a State of Mind» was funded with the support of the European Union under the Programme "Europe for Citizens". 5 events have been carried out within this project:

Event 1
Participation: The event involved 80 citizens, including 25 participants from the city of Herceg Novi (Montenegro),10 participants from the city of Qala (Malta), 7 participants from the city of Yeri (Cyprus), 3 participants from the city of Filipstad (Sweden), 3 participants from the city of Novo Mesto (Slovenia), 2 participants from the city of Alimos (Greece), 2 participants from the city of Amt Trittau (Germany), 8 participants from the city of Canale Monterano (Italy), 2 participants from the city of Dobsice (Czech Republic), 5 participants from the city of Arnot (Hungary),1 participant from the city of Säärijarvi (Finland), 2 participants from the city of Valea lui Mlhai (Romania),2 participants from the city of Knin (Croatia),2 participants from the organization Balkanu Zieds (Latvia), 5 participants from the organization Associação Sójovem das Saibreiras (Portugal), 1 participant from the organization Cibervoluntarios (Spain).
Location / Dates: The event took place in Herceg Novi (Herceg Novi, Montenegro), from 17/01/2020 to 21/01/2020
Short description: The aim of the event was to launch the project, introduce the main themes and priorities of EUISM project, and allow the delegations to get acquainted with each other. The main theme was: "How volunteers from different realities can build a solid collaboration based on intercultural dialogue and exchange best practices within the framework of civic and democratic participation".
On day 1 the delegations arrived in Herceg Novi and met each other, name games methodology was applied.
On day 2 the first part of the launch conference took place, with the introduction of the Europe For Citizens Programme, EU funding and functioning, EU2030 Agenda, and presentation of the Project. The first part of the day was then dedicated to speeches by representatives of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, namely the Mayor of Herceg Novi Mr. Stevan Katić and Mrs. Simonida Kordić, Head of Office for International Cooperation in Herceg Novi, to illustrate the process of accession to EU and all the project and interventions directly funded by EU in the Municipality. Then the conference proceeded with the subtitle “Volunteering: Examples of best practices in Herceg Novi and Montenegro”, with the intervention of 4 speakers from local and national volunteering organizations, in particular of the youth initiative “Budi primjer, uključi se”. In the evening a workshop on the EU decision-making process was led by students from the "Ivan Goran Kovacić" high school, followed by the guided debate on Mentimeter “Does the European Union need its own Donald Trump?".
On day 3 the day started with a tour of the Herceg Novi Municipality, with a focus on the main interventions funded by the EU. In the evening the international delegations presented their best practices for volunteering. The youth organization Sojovem (PT) presented opportunities in the Erasmus+ for the youth sector and the European Solidarity Corps.
On day 4 the international delegates and representatives of Herceg Novi joined a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the area, visiting Perast and Kotor. The evening had the theme "United in Diversity"- Get to know the European Motto through food”, the delegate joined the local community in the celebration of the St. John slava.
On day 5 the representative of Herceg Novi held a gift exchange and greetings ceremony for the delegations and the representatives of the project staff met to set the Second Event.

Event 2
Participation: The event involved 96 citizens, including 25 participants from the city of Yeri (Cyprus), 15 participants from the city of Qala (Malta), 8 participants from the city of Herceg Novi (Montenegro),2 participants from the city of Filipstad (Sweden), 2 participants from the city of Novo Mesto (Slovenia), 2 participants from the city of Alimos (Greece), 2 participants from the city of Amt Trittau (Germany), 9 participants from the city of Canale Monterano (Italy), 1 participant from the city of Dobsice (Czech Republic), 9 participants from the city of Arnot (Hungary),1 participant from the city of Säärijarvi (Finland),2 participants from the city of Valea lui Mlhai (Romania), 3 participants from the city of Knin (Croatia), 8 participants from the organization Balkanu Zieds (Latvia),6 participants from the organization Associação Sójovem das Saibreiras (Portugal),1 participant from the organization Cibervoluntarios (Spain).
Location / Dates: The event took place in Yeri (Yeri, Cyprus), from 24/09/2021 to 28/09/2021.
Short description: The aim of the event was to debate the theme "Understanding the Union policy-making process".
On day 1 the delegations arrived in Yeri and joined the local community in Folk dances and typical dinner.
On day 2 the first part of the workshop was carried out with the intervention of the Mayor of Qala Mr. Paul Buttigieg who made a report of the First Event in Montenegro. The policy-making process of the EU was introduced by the MEP Mr. George Georgiou. The work then proceeded with group work on three topics (Migration, EU Integration, Covid-19 Impact, and response), with the direct involvement of all the participants.
On day 3 the delegations worked on a Problem-Solving activity on the theme of migration and then joined a guided tour of Nicosia and Larnaka.
On day 4 the international delegations’ representatives presented their work on the assigned tasks. Then national policymakers joined the meeting: the Deputy Ministry of Tourism presented the investments for the promotion of Cyprus heritage; Ms. Christiana Erotokritou, member of Cyprus parliament for DEKO presented “The Cyprus Problem” illustrating the history of the Turkish occupation of northern Cyprus, Mr. Neophytos Papalazarou, Mayor of Yeri, held a conclusive speech presenting the Third EUISM meeting to be held in Portugal.
On day 5 the representative of Yeri held a gift exchange and greetings ceremony for the delegations and the representatives of the project staff met to set the Third Event.

Event 3
Participation: The event involved 99 citizens, including 22 participants from the organization Associação Sójovem das Saibreiras (Portugal), 12 participants from the city of Qala (Malta), 8 participants from the city of Yeri (Cyprus), 8 participants from the city of Herceg Novi (Montenegro), 1 participant from the city of Filipstad (Sweden), 1 participant from the city of Novo Mesto (Slovenia), 1 participant from the city of Alimos (Greece),2 participants from the city of Amt Trittau (Germany),12 participants from the city of Canale Monterano (Italy), 2 participants from the city of Dobsice (Czech Republic), 10 participants from the city of Arnot (Hungary), 2 participants from the city of Säärijarvi (Finland),4 participants from the city of Valea lui Mlhai (Romania), 4 participants from the city of Knin (Croatia), 9 participants from the organization Balkanu Zieds (Latvia), 1 participants from the organization Cibervoluntarios (Spain).
Location / Dates: The event took place in Ermesinde (Ermesinde, Portugal), from 05/11/2021 to 09/11/2021.
Short description: The aim of the event was to debate the topic “Can local strategies influence the European framework or are they like a drop in the ocean?”.
On day 1 the delegations arrived in Porto and joined the representatives of Sojovem for a Fado Concert held by university students.
On day 2 the first part of the workshop started with a report of the previous meeting and an introduction to the topic of the event held by the Mayor of Qala Mr. Paul Buttigieg and by the General Secretary of Sojovem Mr. Luis Ramalho. The debate was introduced by Mr. Alberto Machado, president of PSD for Porto District. In the afternoon the participants actively got engaged in group work on volunteering and solidarity (Integration, Inclusion, and Media Literacy) at LIPOR Auditorium.
On day 3 the delegates joined the Sojovem representatives and young associates in a visit to Porto, a visit to youth and volunteering organizations.
On day 4 the second part of the workshop saw the delegates visiting the LIPOR center, and debating themes regarding the European Green Deal; Mrs. Susana Abreu, International business unit manager for LIPORT, presented the “LIPOR international strategy”. In the evening the theme of the discussion was “Europe and youth: for democracy and participation”, with open debate among the participants, a presentation of delegations’ local work on the topic, and a speech by Alcidio Jesus, representative of the Portugues Institute for Sport and Youth (IPDJ). The conclusion and presentation of the fourth event to be held in Italy were made by representatives of Qala Municipality and Canale Monterano Municipality.
On day 5 the representative of the Sojovem association held a gift exchange and greetings ceremony for the delegations and the representatives of the project staff met to set the Fourth Event.

Event 4
Participation
: The event involved 100 citizens, including 26 participants from the city of Canale Monterano (Italy),16 participants from the city of Qala (Malta), 9 participants from the city of Yeri (Cyprus), 9 participants from the city of Herceg Novi (Montenegro), 1 participant from the city of Filipstad (Sweden), 1 participant from the city of Novo Mesto (Slovenia), 1 participant from the city of Alimos (Greece), 1 participant from the city of Amt Trittau (Germany), 8 participants from the city of Dobsice (Czech Republic), 6 participants from the city of Arnot (Hungary), 1 participant from the city of Säärijarvi (Finland), 3 participants from the city of Valea lui Mlhai (Romania), 4 participants from the city of Knin (Croatia), 8 participants from the organization Balkanu Zieds (Latvia), 2 participants from the organization Cibervoluntarios (Spain), 4 participants from the organization Associação Sójovem das Saibreiras (Portugal).
Location / Dates: The event took place in Canale Monterano (Canale Monterano, Italy), from 16/06/2022 to 20/06/2022.
Short description: The aim of the event was to debate the topic: of "Euroscepticism and critical thinking".
On day 1 the delegations arrived in Canale Monterano and joined local volunteers in the visit to the Monterano Regional Nature Reserve.
On day 2 the first part of the Conference saw the greeting and introduction to the topic held by the Mayor of Canale Monterano Mr. Alessandro Bettarelli and the Mayor of Qala Mr. Paul Buttigieg. The delegations’ representatives presented the report of the work on “State-of-the-art of Euroscepticism in the Member States”, followed by a debate and Q&A”. Mr. Judith Kirton-Darling, a former member of the European Parliament, held a speech on “Euroscepticism, fake news and lies to destabilize the European construction. In the afternoon the work foresaw the intervention of local speakers: Mr. Donato Mauro, former representative of the Italian National Security Authority in the Security Council of the EU Commission and European Council, on the topic “From Ventotene to Maastricht”; Mr. Daniele Taurino, member of the European Youth Forum, on the topic “A youth vision about Europe”.
On day 3 the delegates and representatives of Canale Monterano joined a tour of Rome, with a visit to the Campidoglio Sala della Protomoteca, where the Rome Treaties were signed in 1957. Upon their return to Canale Monterano, the participants joined the local volunteers in the “Sagra del Raviolo”, actively taking part in service and cooking for the guest.
On day 4 the second part of the Conference saw the intervention of Mr. Alessandro Battilocchio, Italian deputy and former MEP, on the topic of “Italy and Euroscepticism”, followed by Mr. Sam Biesemans, co-founder and vice-president of the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection, on the topic “A voice from Brussels”. In the evening the participants got engaged in group work on the topic “Counter-narrative for Europe, how to transmit reliable and positive news about EU actions”. The conclusion of the Conference was made by Mr. Lorne Cremona, who also introduced the topic and features of the Fifth event in Malta.
On day 5 the representative of the Municipality of Canale Monterano held a gift exchange and greetings ceremony for the delegations and the representatives of the project staff met to set the Last Event in Malta.

: The event involved 108 citizens, including 30 participants from the city of Qala (Malta), 12 participants from the city of Canale Monterano (Italy),9 participants from the city of Yeri (Cyprus), 8 participants from the city of Herceg Novi (Montenegro),2 participants from the city of Filipstad (Sweden), 1 participant from the city of Novo Mesto (Slovenia), 1 participant from the city of Alimos (Greece), 2 participants from the city of Amt Trittau (Germany), 8 participants from the city of Dobsice (Czech Republic), 6 participants from the city of Arnot (Hungary), 1 participant from the city of Säärijarvi (Finland), 5 participants from the city of Valea lui Mlhai (Romania), 7 participants from the city of Knin (Croatia), 6 participants from the organization Balkanu Zieds (Latvia), 2 participants from the organization Cibervoluntarios (Spain), 8 participants from the organization Associação Sójovem das Saibreiras (Portugal).
Location / Dates: The event took place in Qala (Qala, Malta), from 29/07/2022 to 02/08/2022.
Short description: The aim of the event was to debate the topic: “Final conclusions: debating on the future of Europe”.
On day 1 the delegations arrived in Gozo and joined the local community for a typical Maltese dinner.
On day 2 the first part of the Conference was held, starting with a greeting and introduction speech by the Mayor of Qala Mr. Paul Buttigieg, who held a report about the project’s results and introduced the topic of the meeting. The morning session saw the intervention of Dr. Samuel Azzopardi's “The future of European integration: visions and perspectives”, Rev. Dr. Edward Xuareb's “The challenges European leaders must face up to”, Mr. Karl Buttigieg, Qala Local Council, “Future of Europe: what worked, what now and what next”. The afternoon session saw the presentation of the delegations’ work on the local gathering of recommendations on “The Future of Europe”. In the evening the participants joined the Qala local community in the celebration of the Festa.
On day 3 the participants and the representatives of the Municipality of Qala joined a tour of Gozo heritage, starting with the World Heritage site of Ġgantija Temples and museum, Rabat-Vittoria historical center, and Marsalforn Seaside.
On day 4 the second part of the Conference saw the intervention of Hon. Clint Camilleri, Minister of Gozo, followed by a group work that directly engaged in the debate on the three topics “The future of European integration: visions and perspectives”, “The challenges European leaders must face up to”, “Future of Europe: what worked, what now and what next”. The evening session saw the debate on the EUISM projects follow-up, with the presentation of the new CERV 2021-2027 funding program.
On day 5 the representative of the Municipality of Qala held a gift exchange and greetings ceremony for the delegations and the representatives of the project staff met to set the project’s follow up.
